Supernatural Vid: Episodic to 'Houses of the Holy'
I've never really talked about the any of the vids I have made, mostly because I’ve never really considered myself a vidder. Mostly I considered what I did a lesson in how to vid, trying new things, learning new ways to express something and generally familiarising myself with the feel of something.
But then I found myself wanting to make *this* vid even though I knew the subject matter alone would intimidate the hell out of me.
But I wanted to try…
I wanted to try for several reasons one of those being Father Reynold’s description of Michael the Archangel:
The Archangel Michael with the flaming sword. The fighter of Demons. The Holy Force against Evil.
Doesn’t that pretty much describe Dean and Sam? Or possibly it describes Dean. Father Reynold's also called upon the Archangel Raphael. Master of the air. To make open the way so as Father Gregory might be awakened to the world beyond.
Wasn't it Sam who first made open the way? He performed the seance which summoned Father Gregory into his (Sam) and Father Reynold's presence. His actions gave Father Gregory substance and form.
Sam helped convince Father Gregory that he wasn't Angel.
Father I'm sorry but you're not Angel. You're a man. You're a spirit and you need to rest.
The look on Sam's face, the understanding, the compassion. Sam helped heal Father Gregory. Isn't the Archangel Raphael supposed to represent healing?
Isn't that what Sam did while Dean was being the warrior?
Father Reynold's describes the Archangels as more loving than wrathful.
Isn’t that how we see Dean and Sam?
Father Reynold’s explained that ever since Father Gregory was murdered he’d been praying his heart out.
For deliverance from the violence and the bloodshed.
And we saw, that which some thought to be deliverance wasn’t an Angel at all, it was a spirit. It was Father Gregory.
But what if wasn’t?
What if the answer to Father Reynold's prayers wasn’t the misguided spirit of a priest?
What if it was really Sam and Dean. Hunters. But also protectors, the fighters of demons, a force against evil.
Sam’s faith (something we discovered in this episode), Dean’s ability to sense evil (not something we saw in this episode but something we have witnessed so many times) and his need to take action. The way Dean chased down the wrongdoer… the way Dean and Sam seem to be framed in a backdrop of light as they open the hatch to the basement. Sam often framed by a reflection of light. The reflection of the Impala in the bad guy's rearview mirror... Christ's crown of thorns and the wounds, the blood on the dead guy's head at the end of the episode...
Yes, it could have been coincidence.
But it wasn't father Gregory. We saw Father Reynold’s help Father Gregory pass on to the afterlife.
What if it wasn't a coincidence?
What if it *was* the will of God and Sam and Dean are mortal representations of Michael the Archangel. God's warriors, a force against evil. Protectors and not just hunters.
What if Dean was right?
What if he did see exactly what he believed he’d seen. What if Dean did bear witness to God's Will.
What if Sam bore witness to the fulfillment of God's will with the passing of Father Gregory?
What if Sam’s faith was more than a comfort? What if it was more than something which just made things easier.
What if there is more out there then chaos and violence and random, unpredictable evil that comes out of nowhere and rips you to shreds?
What if there is something else out there, watching over them, a higher power?
Basically, that’s what I wanted the vid to show but I balked and the vid kind of derailed shortly after leaving the station. But thanks to Lum and her understanding of what I wanted to show and what I failed to show…
Well it wouldn’t be half the vid it is if Lum hadn’t have been willing to help me get it back on its correct track. It’s the vid I wanted it to be because Lum helped it arrive at its intended destination and I also wanted to ackowledge that because sometimes thank you doesn’t seem enough.
And I think this marks a turning point in how I approach a vid from now on because I’ve never wanted to make a vid and it say exactly what I wanted it to say as much as this one.
I don’t know, somehow that it be what it should be really mattered.
Dude, listen to the athiest ramble or just you know ignore me, watch the vid if you want to?
